One of Taiwan’s most internationally representative wedding events, the Alishan Wedding Under the Sacred Tree, officially marks its 20th anniversary this year. The Alishan National Scenic Area Headquarters, Tourism Administration, MOTC (hereafter “Alishan Administration”) held the 2026 Alishan Wedding Under the Sacred Tree 20th Anniversary and Homecoming Press Conference today, May 19, at the image corridor of SPOT-Huashan, Huashan 1914 Creative Park.
The event was officially launched with the planting of an eternal symbol of love, “So’ongna’s Vow,” witnessed by Huang Shih-fang, Deputy Director-General of the Tourism Administration, MOTC; Legislator Wang Yu-min; Wang Chao-pao, Director of the Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office, Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture; Huang Hsiu-tuan, Secretary of the Chiayi Branch, Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture; Kung Feng-hsiang, Director of the Alishan Administration; and Kyle Mannschreck and his family, who returned from the United States for the homecoming celebration.
The 2026 event will be themed “Coming Home to Happiness.” For the first time, the Alishan Administration will partner with the Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office to incorporate the brand-new EVI train and create an exclusive wedding train experience. A grand Homecoming Celebration will also be launched, inviting couples who have taken part in past editions of the event to return to the Niupuzi Love Prairie and share in this special moment of happiness. Registration opens today, May 19, 2026. Couples are warmly invited to begin a new chapter in life under the witness of Alishan’s thousand-year-old sacred trees, allowing their love to take deep root in Alishan. Registration details are available on the Alishan Tourism website.
In his remarks, Deputy Director-General Huang Shih-fang stated that the Alishan Wedding Under the Sacred Tree is a highly representative event on the Taiwan Tourism Events Calendar. He noted that Alishan offers not only exceptional natural scenery, but also profound cultural depth, and welcomed couples from around the world to experience this romantic high-mountain wedding.
Legislator Wang Yu-min, who attended the event in person, shared that seeing couples from the 2025 event return for the homecoming celebration was deeply moving, especially the warm and harmonious scenes of married life. She noted that Alishan has world-class scenery and said she will continue to support efforts to bring the Alishan brand to the international stage.
Wang Chao-pao, Director of the Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office, also shared good news regarding this first cross-agency collaboration. He stated that the office’s newest train, the EVI, is expected to officially enter service this September, and expressed his pleasure at seeing it incorporated into this meaningful 20th-anniversary celebration.
This year’s 20th-anniversary wedding itinerary will begin on Friday, October 16, 2026. The highlight will be a journey aboard the newest Alishan Forest Railway train, the EVI. Couples will travel through the mountain forests by rail, slowly passing Fenqihu and Erwanping Station while taking in the shifting light and scenery of the natural landscape. The main wedding ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, within the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. The ceremony will combine a solemn sacred-tree wedding ritual with a traditional Tsou wedding experience, allowing culture and nature to serve as the most moving witnesses to love.
Taiwan’s only homecoming celebration for past participating couples will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Niupuzi Love Prairie. The Alishan Administration has specially planned a themed event titled “A Day of Great Happiness: Coming Home to Happiness,” inviting couples from previous years and their families to gather once again. As this year marks the event’s 20th anniversary, couples celebrating 20 years of marriage — traditionally known as their porcelain anniversary — are especially invited to return to Alishan, revisit their vows, and let their love continue to flourish among the grasslands and forests.
Since it was first held in 2007, the Alishan Wedding Under the Sacred Tree has been included as an international-level event on the Taiwan Tourism Events Calendar. The Alishan Administration stated that the 20th anniversary is not only an important milestone, but also a symbol of the growing maturity of the “Romantic Alishan” brand.
This year, the event will further strengthen industry integration by connecting the five major tourism elements of dining, accommodation, recreation, shopping, and transportation. Over the years, the event has worked with wedding industry brands and professionals, including Good Wedding Market and Weddings, to create a one-stop romantic industry matchmaking platform that integrates social networking, wedding photography, and honeymoon travel.
Looking ahead, the Alishan Administration will continue to guide local businesses in developing romantic souvenirs and in-depth wedding travel experiences, expanding the impact of the brand, driving the overall development of the Greater Alishan Tourism Area, and making Alishan synonymous with happiness.
